The surprise co-op hit of the last fortnight is a game about cleaning the entire Moon, starting with a toothbrush. Moon Sweepers, from DragDrop Games, launched on Steam on 23 October, and a week later the studio announced 600,000 players and a peak of 70,000 playing at once.
What it is
The Lunar Surface Department has sent your crew to clean the Moon, and the budget only covered a toothbrush. You collect lunar dust, deliver it to a depot and launch shipments to get paid, then spend the money on better tools, more carrying capacity and eventually cleaning vehicles. It grows into a full operation, with depots near your work, production machines, conveyor belts and lunar bases. It plays solo or in online co-op lobbies of up to 16 players, and it costs $8.99 on Steam for Windows.
Still growing
DragDrop's first major content update, 1.1, is planned for December. It promises new production machines and chains, new materials and products, more tools and upgrades, better automation and building options, expanded progression and performance work, with the focus on making the late game more rewarding. In the meantime, patch 1.0.5 already lets you build anywhere without clearing the dust first, adds a move mode for anything you have built, and warns you before you open your Moon up to public players.
"Sixteen people, one Moon and a toothbrush. It sounds like a joke until you realise it is a factory game in disguise."
The Exiles
Why we are flagging it
Moon Sweepers is not one of the games The Exiles are organised around, and we are not announcing anything. But a cheap co-op game for up to 16 people, set in space, is squarely our kind of thing, so if you fancy a shift on the lunar dust, say so in the Discord and see who else is.
