Alliance Tournament XXII started with 58 teams. After seven rounds of Swiss and more than 200 matches, 16 are left, and the finals begin on 31 October.
The final 16
Every finalist has already won two Heralds and two Penitences, so from here it is about how many more they take home. Each team has also declared a flagship, which can use faction, deadspace and officer variants of modules that normal tournament ships cannot, and can even be fielded when its hull type has been banned. Lose it in the arena, though, and it is gone for the rest of the tournament. Here is the field, grouped by flagship (the full stops are part of the names):
Armageddon Navy Issue (11): 34-yrs-old men get nagged by wives for playing EVE, Bright Side of Death, Dracarys., IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII, Paper Numbers, Platinum Sensitivity., Ragequit Cancel Sub, Rote Kapelle, Sedition., WE FORM V0LTA, and a team whose name is fifty random lowercase letters.
Barghest (3): Psychokids., Punishing Gray Raven and The Tuskers Co.
Vindicator (2): Deteriorated and Rusty Hyenas Clan.
Teams can also field earlier Alliance Tournament prize ships, including the Geri, Bestla, Cybele, Shapash, Cobra, Sidewinder, Skua and Anhinga. Their use is deliberately restricted, but some genuinely rare pieces of New Eden history could die live on stream.
"Eleven of the sixteen flagships are Armageddon Navy Issues. Somebody is about to find out what beats them."

How the finals work
The Swiss rounds are over and it is back to elimination. The 16 start in a double-elimination bracket of best-of-one matches. At eight teams it becomes double-elimination best-of-three, and it all ends in a best-of-five Grand Final. The longer series bring in the Avalanche Ban system: after each fight, teams must ban ships from their opponent's previous composition for the rest of the series, so nobody can keep reaching for the same winning answer.
The opening day starts at 13:30 UTC on 31 October with Psychokids. against Punishing Gray Raven, and the first eight matches follow every fifteen minutes. The full schedule is on Challonge and in a public sheet linked from Fenris Creations' announcement.
Watching, in person or on Twitch
This year the finals are played out in front of a studio audience, with the casters on stage, at Confetti X in Nottingham on Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November. Doors open at 12:00 both days, with the first match at 13:30 on Saturday and 13:00 on Sunday. Tickets are £10 per day plus fees on Eventbrite, and each comes with a token for a beer or soft drink. Saturday alone is expected to run more than eight hours and 28 matches. Everyone else can watch every match live on the Fenris Creations Twitch channel.
Pick a bracket
There is also an ATXXII Predictions Contest on Challonge: make an account, fill out the complete bracket and pick your champion. First place on the leaderboard wins an EVE: War for New Eden Veteran set worth around $380, places two to ten share 10,900 PLEX, and there are mystery prizes for last place and two randomly drawn entrants.
And the CSM vote opens Thursday
Before any of that, voting for CSM 21 opens on 22 October and runs to 3 November, the same day Crimson Harvest ends.
Talking it over
Tournament weekends are more fun with people who have opinions about every fit. Our EVE corp The Exiled Titans is in the Discord, and the EVE Online hub has more on the corp.
