The Council of Stellar Management elections are back. For CSM 21, 54 candidates have qualified, campaigning runs until 21 October, and voting is open from 22 October to 3 November.
What the CSM actually does
The CSM is the player council that represents the playerbase to Fenris Creations, the studio behind EVE. Describing the last term, the studio points to a week-long in-person summit at Fenris HQ in Iceland, with members staying "in constant dialogue with development teams" over Slack and beyond. This year carries on the expanded council model, which the studio says gives "more representatives a seat at the table".
In plain terms, the people elected here are in the room when changes like the Cradle of War Ansiblex rework get argued over. That is a lot of influence for an election most players never vote in.
"Fifty four candidates, and most of New Eden will never read a single platform. That is exactly why the people who do vote get their way."
The Exiles
Use the campaign period
The candidate list covers highsec, lowsec, nullsec and wormhole life, and includes former council members standing for re-election. The campaign window until 21 October is the time to read the platforms and find the people who fly the way you fly, so that when the vote opens on 22 October you are not picking a name at random.
A busy end of October
The vote lands in a crowded fortnight. The Alliance Tournament XXII finals run on 31 October and 1 November, produced from Nottingham with seats for a live audience for the first time. And Crimson Harvest runs until 3 November, the same day the CSM vote closes.
Talking it through with the corp
Council elections are easier to make sense of with people who have opinions about them. Our EVE corp The Exiled Titans is in the Discord, and the EVE Online hub has more on the corp.
