Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 is on the PTU, and it is carrying the two things that got pulled out of the last patch: the return of Siege of Orison and the arrival of instancing.
Some context on why this patch matters. Alpha 4.9 "Frontier Tensions" landed in mid July, but CIG had already decided to hold features back from it so the team could spend the cycle on foundational systems and long-standing bugs instead. Instancing and Siege of Orison were the headline casualties of that call. They are what 4.10 is built around, and the patch is currently targeted for mid August.
Siege of Orison, rebuilt
The old Siege of Orison was a server-wide event that asked a lot of the platform and often buckled under it. The version in 4.10 is a reworked, instanced co-operative FPS mission. That is a real change of shape rather than a re-run: the fight is a team-focused ground engagement on the platforms instead of a mixed free-for-all that everyone on the shard piles into. Fewer moving parts on the server generally means the encounter behaves the way it was designed to.
"Instancing is the unglamorous feature that makes the glamorous ones work. Content that runs for your team is content that runs."

Why instancing is the bigger story
Siege of Orison is the thing you will see, but instancing is the thing that changes what CIG can build. Running an encounter in its own instance means the experience does not degrade because a few hundred other players happen to be doing something else nearby. It is the groundwork for co-operative content that holds together, and Siege of Orison is the first real demonstration of it.
Testing it, and getting in now
Wave 1 PTU builds have been going out steadily, so the patch notes are moving quickly and details will shift before it goes live. Treat anything you read this week as a snapshot. Worth remembering the timing too: the Foundation Festival free fly is running right now, so if you have never flown Star Citizen you can try the live game for nothing while 4.10 finishes cooking on the test servers.
If you would rather learn Orison with people who can talk you through it than drop in cold, our Star Citizen org UTLAGARNIR is in the Discord, and the Star Citizen hub has more on how we fly together. New pilots welcome.
