Here Is What Landed

Close to 500 fixes, a Siege of Orison locked to you and three friends, and a fighter that changes shape depending on what you need from it.

A battle damaged plaza in Orison at sunset, with a burning wreck and scattered barricades

We have written about Alpha 4.10 three times while it sat on the test servers. It went live on 26 August, so this is the first time we can talk about what is actually in your hands rather than what was promised.

The final tally was close to 500 bug fixes, well past the 230 blocker and critical fixes CIG was quoting during the PTU run. That is the unglamorous half of the patch and it is the half that decides whether a build is worth playing. The interesting half is that Siege of Orison came back, and it came back as the first mission built on Instancing on Demand.

What instancing actually means for a small group

Previously, a big event mission meant sharing a server with everyone else who had the same idea, which is how Siege of Orison earned its reputation the first time around. Now, when you launch it, the game hands you a closed instance locked to you and your party, capped at four players. Nobody wanders in. Nobody griefs the objective. The mission does not degrade because forty other people are also trying to complete it.

That four player cap is worth sitting with. It is not a raid, it is not a fleet op, it is the size of a normal evening with a few friends. For a group our size that is a much more useful shape of content than another 50 player server event.

"A closed instance for four is not a small ambition. It is the first time the verse has let a group of friends have a mission entirely to themselves."

The Exiles

The mission itself

Siege of Orison is now a pure FPS mission. There is no ship phase to fumble, which removes the old failure mode where half the group never made it to the ground in the first place. The Crusader Defence Force is recruiting to break the Nine Tails hold on the Orison Inspiration Park Cluster, and all three platforms have been reworked for tighter combat flow and clearer sightlines rather than the confusing sprawl they used to be.

The Nine Tails also got a proper visual identity out of it, escalating from ordinary grunts through masked elites up to a boss in bespoke armour. It is a small thing, but being able to read at a glance how dangerous the thing shooting at you is happens to be exactly what an FPS mission needs.

The Kruger S-65 Stingray

The other headline is flyable now. The Kruger S-65 Stingray is a medium fighter that transforms between two modes: a streamlined configuration that trades agility for higher forward speed, and a combat configuration that presents a smaller profile and manoeuvres better. Sensibly, that means one hull covers both getting somewhere and fighting when you arrive, which is not something the fighter line has offered before.

Worth a look this week

If you bounced off Star Citizen because a headline event turned into a server queue, the instanced version of Orison is a genuinely different experience and worth another try. Our Star Citizen org UTLAGARNIR is in the Discord if you want people to run it with, and the Star Citizen hub has more on how we fly. New pilots always welcome.
