After a month on the test servers, Star Citizen Alpha 4.10 is finally being pushed to live, and CIG has lined up a Free Fly right behind it. If you have been waiting for a good week to get someone into the verse, this is it.

CIG says 4.10 is targeting a live release this week, with more than 230 blocker and critical fixes landed during the PTU run. That number is the story. This patch has been in public testing since late July across a long string of builds, and the reason it took so long is that the team kept holding it back to fix things rather than shipping on schedule. After Alpha 4.9 shipped light so foundational bugs could be dealt with, that is a reasonable trade.

What lands with it

The headline is the reworked Siege of Orison, rebuilt as an instanced co-operative FPS mission, and the instancing technology behind it that gives your team its own copy of the encounter. Alongside that sit the changes we flagged earlier: a rebalance of hydrogen fuel and quantum drive behaviour, better ship loadouts when you recover a lost vessel, and new gear including the Arlington lever action rifle.

"Two hundred and thirty blocker and critical fixes is not a glamorous headline. It is the reason the patch is worth having."

The Exiles

Free Fly opens Wednesday

The Ship Showdown Elite Eight Free Fly begins on Wednesday 26 August, alongside a roadmap update. Note that CIG has deliberately staggered these rather than dropping a major patch and a wide free fly on the same day, so they can watch the 4.10 release properly. Practically, that means the game becomes free to try just as the new content arrives. If you have a friend who has been curious but would not spend money to find out, point them at this week.

Also this week

PTU testers were handed weekend access to the Kruger S-65 Stingray as a thank you for putting builds through their paces, which is the sleek red thing at the top of this page. On Friday 28 August the Bar Citizen World Tour reaches Gamescom in Cologne, with the RSI newsletter and a new issue of Jump Point the same day.

Flying it with the org

A fresh patch plus a free fly is the friendliest week of the year to try Star Citizen, and Orison is a lot more fun with people who know where the lifts are. Our Star Citizen org UTLAGARNIR is in the Discord, and the Star Citizen hub has more on how we fly together. New pilots welcome.
