Siege of Orison is the headline of Star Citizen's Alpha 4.10, and we covered it last week. The rest of the patch is the part that will quietly change how you fly every day, and it deserves a look of its own.
First, where things stand. 4.10 is still on the PTU, but it has opened up to all backers rather than a limited test wave, and the patch notes are still being revised daily. So you can go and play it now if you want, with the usual caveat that anything in a test build can change before it reaches live servers. CIG is targeting mid August.
Fuel is being rebalanced
The change with the widest blast radius is a rebalance of fuel tanks and fuel consumption. Fuel is one of those systems nobody thinks about until it changes, and then suddenly every route, every long haul and every "can I make it back" decision shifts with it. If you fly anything with a serious quantum range, this is the entry in the notes to read twice.
"Nobody makes a trailer about fuel tanks. You will still notice it more than the event."
The Exiles
Getting your ship back properly
The other change worth flagging is an improvement to ship loadouts when recovering lost vessels. Anyone who has claimed a ship and found their carefully chosen components quietly replaced with stock parts knows exactly why this matters. It is not glamorous, but losing an hour of outfitting to a claim is one of the small frustrations that adds up.
New kit to shoot with
On the gear side, 4.10 brings a super heavy combat armour suit, two new weapons and a weapon attachment, plus new ships at Wikelo's. The armour in particular pairs with the instanced Siege of Orison, which is a ground fight first and foremost, so expect the two to be talked about together once the patch lands.
Testing it with the org
Open PTU is a good moment to try things you would not risk on live, because nothing you do there follows you home. If you want company while you poke at the new build, our Star Citizen org UTLAGARNIR is in the Discord, and the Star Citizen hub has more on how we fly together. New pilots welcome.
