Minecraft's Third Drop of 2026 is taking shape in snapshots, and it is shaping up to be a builder's update with a proper travel hook attached. The short version: stairs and slabs in every colour you already own, and an autumn forest worth going to find.

Concrete and wool, finally shaped

Start with the change that will quietly rewrite a lot of builds. The drop adds concrete stairs and slabs in all 16 colours, and wool stairs and slabs in all 16 colours. Anyone who has tried to build a roof, a staircase or a rounded edge in a specific colour knows the workaround pain here. Full stair and slab sets in the entire palette is the sort of change that does not make a trailer but changes what you can actually build.

The Dappled Forest

The new biome is the Dappled Forest, an autumn-themed woodland built around poplar trees. Poplar leaves come in red, orange and yellow, and the full wood set comes with them: logs, planks, stairs, slabs, fences, doors and signs, plus poplar boats and chest boats. The forest floor gets coarse dirt patches, red shrubs, and shelf mushrooms that grow on the sides of trunks in small and large sizes. It is the first biome in a while that is really about colour.

Somewhere to go and a map to get there

Exploration gets a genuine boost too. A new Abandoned Camp structure generates across forest and taiga biomes, with the design varying depending on where it spawns. Backing that up, the drop adds a big batch of explorer maps, 8 biome variants and 4 structure variants, which turns "I should go and look for that" into an actual pointer on a map. Rounding out the furniture: straw beds and cushions in all 16 colours, which are decorative and sittable.

When it lands

This is the fall drop, arriving as Java 26.3 and Bedrock 26.50, and it is currently working through snapshots with Bedrock shipping some of it as experimental features to toggle on. Mojang has not put a date on it beyond the back half of the year, so treat everything above as subject to change until it ships. Snapshots are exactly where features get cut and reworked.

Building with the crew
