EVE Online has pushed its big summer update live. Version 24.01 is out now, and while the headline event will look familiar, there is a genuinely new reason for solo and returning pilots to log in.

Lead with that new thing, the Visions of Greatness epic arc. It is a fresh storyline that drops you into simulated battles from some of the most pivotal moments in the four empires' history, built specifically for new and returning players, with bonus challenges and faction rewards along the way. Epic arcs are one of EVE's best on-ramps, a guided run of content you can solo at your own pace, and a new one is a real gift for anyone who bounced off the game's famous opening hours.

Alongside it, Operation Avalon is now underway. We flagged the event last week, and 24.01 is the patch that switches it on. Expect investigations to chase, roaming AEGIS Squall haulers to intercept, hidden points of interest scattered across New Eden, and traders handing out boosters, SKINs and officer modules for taking part.

What else is in the patch

The update also rebalances Military Campaigns, lowering participation requirements and raising individual contribution rewards, so community objectives are more achievable and pay out better whether you show up with a fleet or on your own. Factional Warfare gets a pass too, with ELT-10 sites converting to smaller ELT-5 sites, Micro Jump Field Generators now usable with green safety in lowsec, and new tactical destroyer bonuses. Rounding it out, the Exordium region gets a graphics overhaul, a new Grade-0 Pyroxeres ore variant, and a set of CONCORD station SKINs.

Why it matters

There is a low-friction way in no matter how you play. If you are new or rusty, the epic arc is a self-paced tour. If you live for events, Avalon is paying out right now. And if you have been sitting out community campaigns because the grind felt thankless, the rebalance is aimed squarely at you.
